AMFC Flying Site
The Club site is located at Woodham Ferrers, near Chelmsford, Essex. It is
probably one of the best grass flying sites in East Anglia, being 35 acres
and isolated from residential areas by being in the middle of farm land.
The area is flat without nearby trees, thus giving a large unencumbered
flying area. At the field is a caravan for shelter, it also has facilities
for a brew up.
The main power strip is grass and about 80 metres square. There is also a separate
Heli pad for the 'copter jocks. Both squares are kept level and
short by regular contract mowing and rolling.
The following photographs show how open the site is: |

Frequency Control
The Club is very safety conscious and operates a "peg on"
frequency control system. Helicopters are allocated a separate band of
frequencies from fixed wing.
All fixed wing models fly from the main square whilst Helicopters operate
from their own separate square and with their own air space.
Visitors
Visitors are welcome, but must be introduced by a Club officer or a
member, who will be responsible for them during their visit. All visitors
must;
- ensure they make themselves familiar
with the flying rules and restrictions before take off
- must be signed into the attendance book
kept in the Club caravan.
If you would like to join, either come along to a Club evening or send an
email to angliamfc@blueyonder.co.uk
The Flambirds site has a fascinating history as an ex-WW1 aerodrome, the
full history is related on the history page.
