Visitors

Visitors are welcome, but must be introduced by a Club officer or a member, who will be responsible for them during their visit. All visitors must:

  • ensure they make themselves familiar with the flying rules and restrictions before take off
  • be signed into the attendance book kept in the Club caravan.

If you would like to join please e-mail the Membership Secretary using the link in the header above - you will be sent an application form. Note that we have a waiting list at present.

We fly at Stow Maries, a WW1 aerodrome presently being restored to as near its original state as possible.

We have been flying on the site (previously known as Flambirds Farm) for over 40 years and the new owners have made it clear that they are keen for model flying to continue. When completed the aerodrome will be equipped with hangars housing historic and classic aircraft, with a restoration and maintenance activity. The new owner already has planning permission to operate as an unlicensed aerodrome with a limited number of full size movements, and we are already beginning to experience aircraft arriving and departing. Developing safe operating practices which allow models and full size aircraft to co-exist safely is a challenge, and we are working closely with the owner, and his airfield manager, to achieve this. During the next couple of years we need to be flexible as things change. This means that, in the short term, we may experience some inconvenience and interruptions to our flying. We are convinced, however, that the end result will be one of the most exciting and rewarding model flying sites in the country.

At the field is a caravan for shelter, and a fully serviced WC, although future plans include a clubhouse in WW1 style with running water, a flush lavatory, and power.

Frequency Control

The Club operates a "peg on" frequency control system. Helicopters are allocated a separate band of frequencies from fixed wing.

All fixed wing models fly from the main square whilst Helicopters operate from their own separate square and with their own air space.
