About the Club
Affiliated to the British Model Flying Association - Club No 0007
Registered with South Woodham Ferrers
Sports Council.
The AMFC is a power only Club, we are unable to provide
facilities for gliders and free flight at this time.
The flying site is located at Flambirds Farm on a 35 acre field with an open
aspect (no trees to jump out at the model!).
Flying at Flambirds is allowed six days a week - Tuesday to Sunday for power
flying from a large square. There are special arrangements for Bank Holidays
when flying is allowed. A separate Helicopter square is available for those of
that persuasion. The heli group is a growing and active section of the Club.
The Flambirds site, an ex-WW1 aerodrome, has a fascinating history which is told
on the history page.
The Club is keen to train beginners to the sport and has a training coordinator
and team of dedicated instructors, who give freely of their time, and are
capable of teaching on either mode 1 (throttle right) or 2 (throttle left). A
buddy box is available for use by the instructors if required.
The BMFA achievement scheme is actively supported and all flying members must
attain the A certificate if they are to fly unattended by an instructor or a
certified member.
During the year there are a number of events laid on for members. The emphasis
is on fun rather than out and out competition. Most events use a points system
and prizes are there to be won. The Club is fortunate to be supported by the
local model trade who donate prizes for events.
The Club holds regular meetings on the first Monday of each month from 8pm
onwards at the South Woodham Village Hall.
